Distinctive Canoes for Discriminating Paddlers

Tom, can you make me a small light canoe I can carry to the lake after work?

Ready to break out of the same old mold?

In the water or on the car, I guarantee you will attract attention with one of these. It is the good, positive attention, not the toilet paper stuck to your shoe kind of attention!

These are truly distinctive, light weight, durable canoes. Other paddlers point, smile and wave when you drive down the highway. They ask you about it when you're paddling. There is something beautiful about the wood that can't be captured in a canoe coming off a mold.

I derive a lot of pleasure heading out for a quick paddle. The majority of the canoe designs are light weight solo models. There are few "attractive" solo canoe designs for stitch and glue construction. There are not too many solo canoe designs period, even for wood strip construction. There are roughly 45 canoe stitch and glue canoe designs in my portfolio. These range from a7 ft 6" model designed for 1 sheet of ply up to variety of 20 foot tandem models.

I have built numerous solo canoes and typically sell them right underneath me, so to speak, with folks making an offer on what I'm currently paddling. On the up side it has allowed me to experiment with a variety of shapes and configurations. There is a lot to be said about the practical hands-on implications of design and trial. It has been said more than once that there is no perfect canoe and I have to agree. Sometimes folks can not find what they want off the shelf and that's when it is useful to have a craft designed for you.

Strong Durable Finish for Years of Carefree Use

Durable spray finish requires little care

You won't need to varnish these boats. I typically use an acrylic urethane finish in clear or paint. If you prefer varnish, I'll can finish your boat with varnish. Several of my boats finished this way five years ago still look beautiful and haven't had to be re-varnished once.
